Greenery - Pantone Colour of the Year 2017

Since the beginning of the millennium, the Pantone Color Institute (aka the global colour authority) has chosen a colour (or two in 2016) to represent each year. This colour will go on to influence all manner of design, from fashion, interior décor, furniture, and lifestyle products, just to name a few.

For 2017, Pantone has taken inspiration from nature and picked Greenery as its Colour of the Year. According to Pantone, “The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world.”

Laurie Pressman, the Pantone Color Institute’s vice president, told Forbes in an interview, that Pantone was partially inspired to choose Greenery by Vivienne Westwood’s motto of “Buy less, choose well, make it last” (#zerowaste). Pressman also said “There’s a growing desire to reconnect with Nature and what is real, and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe.”

Speaking to the New York Times, Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, referred to Greenery as “The colour of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the ‘re’ words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew. Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life affirming to look forward to.”

It has always been a dream of mine to have nature infiltrate people's everyday lives – for everyone to get exposed to what nature has to offer simply by going about their normal routine. Colour and designs is just but one way to do that. Pantone's Greenery has open doors and provide opportunities for businesses from all areas to take this plunge of combining nature with what they have to offer, be it products or even services.
